I heard the bells on Christmas Day Their old, familiar carols play, And wild and sweet The words repeat Of peace on earth, good-will to men I thought how, as the day had come, The belfries of all Christendom Had rolled along The unbroken song Of peace on earth, good-will to men And in despair I bowed my head; There is no peace on earth, I said For hate is strong, And mocks the song Of peace on earth, good-will to men Then pealed the bells more loud and deep: God is not dead, nor doth He sleep; The wrong shall fail The wight prevail With peace on earth, good-will to men

Bring a torch, Jeanette, Isabella Bring a torch, come swiftly and run Christ is born, Tell the folk of the village Jesus is sleeping in His cradle Ah, ah, beautiful is the Mother Ah, ah, beautiful is her Son Quiet now, while the child is sleeping It is wrong to talk so loud Silence now as we gather around him Lest the sound should awaken Jesus Hush, hush, see how fast He slumbers Hush, hush, see how fast He sleeps Hasten now, good folk of the village; Hasten now the Christ Child to see. You will find Him asleep in the manger; Quietly come and whisper softly, Hush! hush! peacefully now He slumbers. Hush! hush! peacefully now He sleeps.

Flowers sleep underneath white blankets of snow Do you think they know about Christmas? Up above a turtle dove sleeps in her nest Does she dream while she rests about Christmas? Christmas, Christmas all wrapped up in bows Who really knows about Christmas? Christmas, Christmas a warm fire glows Who really knows about Christmas? I can’t really prove it to you But somehow I know that it’s true Do Magic elves with shiny bells Live on the North Pole? And do they really know about Christmas? Is Santa’s Sleigh on it’s way? The children they know From the stories we’ve told about Christmas. Christmas, Christmas all wrapped up in bows Who really knows about Christmas? Christmas, Christmas a warm fire glows Who really knows about Christmas?

It’s a frozen winter night On a silver bed of snow This silence stills the chill in my mind With a warmth in my Soul from the moon all aglow And the lights in our southern sky Are the stars all aligned with the fable Symbol of a miracle, where we become one So I wait in the dark for the Sun For the light, wait for the light On this darkest eve of the year Candles dance with our fire burning bright Holding hands with the hope that our peace is right here Angels with broken wings taking flight There’s no night in the southern sky And glowing wind with the northern auroras Joined by this phenomenon, as we are all one So I wait in the dark for the birth of the Sun For the light, wait for the light Awakened by light And the lights in our southern sky Are the stars all aligned with the fable Symbol of the miracle, remembering we are all one So I wait in the dark for the birth of the Son For the light, wait for the light Awakened by light Here comes the light

What child is this, who, laid to rest, On Mary’s lap is sleeping, Whom angels greet with anthems sweet While shepherds watch are keeping? This, this is Christ the King, Whom shepherds guard and angels sing; Haste, haste to bring Him laud, The babe, the son of Mary! Why lies He in such mean estate Where ox and ass are feeding? Good Christian, fear: for sinners here The silent Word is pleading. This, this is Christ the King, Whom shepherds guard and angels sing; Haste, haste to bring Him laud, The babe, the son of Mary! So bring Him incense, gold, and myrrh; Come, peasant, king, to own Him! The King of Kings salvation brings; Let loving hearts enfold Him! This, this is Christ the King, Whom shepherds guard and angels sing; Haste, haste to bring Him laud, The babe, the son of Mary!

When the last leaf falls from the tree And the ground has turned to Autumn brown And the summer clouds are now the eyes of winter And the ice begins to form Across the hills and valleys wide And creatures sleep while four winds they do blow Then, Here Comes the Snow Here comes the Snow Nowhere to run Nowhere to go Cause here comes the snow

I’m watching the sunrise With you Not a cloud in the sky Still cold here this morning But by afternoon A wind will be warming Our city by the ocean Where I’ve never seen it snow But wouldn’t dream of leaving No place I’d rather go (California) Ride to the promenade On two wheels Little lunch by the seaside Near the cliff on a park bench Where a date and her name is inscribed Yea our city by the ocean Where I’ve never seen it snow The place we hid from Christmas After He took her home California winter California California winter California Our little dream of a paradise Here and now in paradise The peace rose in the garden Is flowering Despite these dark days Tonight at our fire Orion Will rise as you hold me, and we’ll celebrate Our city by the ocean Where we’ve never seen it snow At Christmas new emotion Stirring love, makes it grow Oh the feeling by the ocean Pulls my heart to my Soul I wouldn’t dream of leaving No place I’d rather go California winter California California winter California No place I’d rather go

Cold starry nights A white crescent moon Sugar and spice On a long wooden spoon Snow flakes and snowballs Ice skates and sleighs Mulled wine and mince pies Fires all ablaze Round shining eyes Pink little cheeks “Is that present mine?” But no child must peek Pine cones and candles, snow on the roof The sound up above of a reindeer hoof So many parcels, what can they be? Under the skirts of a glittering tree Piles of gifts Christmas bells ring Lights in the trees And carols to sing Mugs of hot chocolate A big swirl of cream Small cold noses Warmed by the steam Millions of toys On Santa’s sleigh Flying round the world Before Christmas Day Pine cones and candles, snow on the roof The sound up above of a reindeer hoof So many parcels, what can they be? Under the skirts of a glittering tree Hush, hush little children Run up to your beds “Or you’ll spoil the magic” The Christmas Elves said Wait for the morning Then open your eyes Santa has left you a lovely surprise Be silent! Listen! Who’s on the roof? Donner or Blitzen or Rudolph’s hoof? The beautiful angel at the top of the tree Under the skirts of a glittering tree

This winter is feeling colder This winter the night has come To wrap us all in silver starlight This winter could be the one Where peace lives beyond imagination With release of divided condemnation With complete hope beyond a hesitation To stand all together This winter it’s getting warmer At the North Pole and deep within With warnings sounding all around us This winter we just might begin To make a change part of daily conversation Increase our positive meditation And cease all this needless degradation To stand all together For love and light For love and life We are circles concentric Notes in one symphony Our puzzle grows allometric Pieces all connected just like you and me This winter This winter stand together This winter Take my hand and make a stand together For love and light For love and life For love and light For love and life Let’s stand together this winter Stand together this winter Stand up together this winter Take my hand and make a stand together This winter

I look up at the norfolk island pine outside the red brick toilet block, the way the ancient branches grow horizontally straight out of the trunk and I remember our childhood christmas tree. Too poor to buy a fresh one every year and perhaps before the plastic ones, dad made one. In a block of jarrah, a thick round trunk with holes drilled to receive silver-frosted pieces of dowelling which reduced in length symmetrically as they climbed the home-made tree. over these were draped fringed green cellophane creased from being folded and stored away from previous years. many of the kids here now would think it hilarious but we thought our christmas tree was beautiful. and with it came unspoken things that many of these kids don’t have. stability. consistency. two loving parents and a feeling of abundance that they may never know.

O come, O come, Emmanuel, And ransom captive Israel, That mourns in lonely exile here, Until the Son of God appear. Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel. O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, free Thine own from Satan's tyranny; From depths of hell Thy people save, And give them victory o'er the grave. Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel.

I am not resolute. I hope for the best. I linger in the quietness until worry spurs my tightened chest. I sit among my papers waiting for motivation to rush to me as if I were sorely missed and then, then I could attend to the sorting and the tidying that I glibly declare I shall complete. What a treat! To start the new year clean… David cannot wait. It’s just another year for me — growth and more maturity. I need not reflect. I hope for the best. I cherish my loves, and their loveliness. Not at all tired, I spy a satellite, or a star it seems, in the brief visible patch of sky between the window and the window pane, and upon that I mediate until I fall asleep. These days, they are active, my dreams. Today is not the head. ‘Tis merely the turn of the calendar page and the date of my age. I have no intention to change. I do not project. I hope for the best.

Our friends think we’re crazy For not watchin’ TV We’d rather sit together And talk with the trees Then garden ‘til we get dirty Just to jump in the blue sea The life we’re living baby Fills all of my needs Love is the answer Yea and love is the gift Baby love holds us together Yea and love is at the top of my Christmas list Love to hear you playing guitar First thing in the morning Philosophize With the dog while we’re walking Raise a glass eye to eye When we dine every evening I fall asleep To your voice while you’re reading baby Togetherness That’s how we are blessed Togetherness Is our oasis in this wilderness Love is the answer Yea and love is the gift Oh baby love holds us together Yea and love is at the top of my list Love is the answer Yea and love is the gift Oh baby love holds us together Yea and love is at the top of my Christmas list Talk together Walk together Read together Sleep together Plant together Grow together Cook together Clean together Sing together Play together Write together Wrong together Dream together Dance together Umm together Ummm hmmm hmmmm
